Shoulder exercises are an important part of one's workout. Developing the muscles of your shoulders will complete a well built arm. Without shoulder work you will not establish the diamond shaped deltoids that define the muscles of the arms and provide you will a fiercely sculpted look.
The anterior deltoid or front deltoid allows the arm to raise to the front of the body. It is involved in many chest exercises including the push up and bench press exercises.
The medial deltoid is mostly concerned with lateral movements allowing the arm to lift out to the side. Exercises that maximize the use of your medial head include side raises and bent arm lateral raises.
The posterior deltoid or rear delts are on the back side of the shoulders. It helps to lift the arm behind you and aids in back exercises that involve the teres major and the rhomboids such reverse flys and rowing exercises. .
